My husband and I are planning our long awaited year and a half trip around the world. What advice do any of you have regarding visa planning? Or any advice for that matter. Theres much to plan as you all know. Thanks

We've just spent a little over a year and a half traveling the world. Still in Italy and won't be headed back to the US until November. Where will you be traveling (or where do you have in mind right now)?

in november we plan to start in Australia, then New Zealand, Indonesia, SE Asia, Asia, Trans Siberian rail over to europe, down to south africa (where im from) and then south america up to central and then to wherever we plan to settle after that. So that's the tentative plan for now though we're highly open to changes and advice.

Visa requirements depend on which passport you are traveling on. So you first need to determine which countries you need a visa for. Generally visas that have to be applied for before hand at an embassy are only valid for 3 months, that is you have to use them within 3 months, which is challenging if you are going to be on the road a long time. Some visas can be obtained at the border. We have been traveling on and off for several years and have just entered Peru our 80th country. We have a lot of information on our blog with regards to visas and long term travel. Take lots of passport photos with you so you can apply for visas on route.
