What amenities do you look for in a hotel?

You know I really appreciate when the basics like conditioner, a razor, a small sewing kit, etc are there. I know those really are the small things but I love having them when I need them. I also think that if there are issues with a floor or a room, that management should close off that general area. I don't want or need to see or smell whatever the issue is. Finally, and I just realized this in Las Vegas, great lighting in the mirror and PLENTY of plugs.

Because I'm always working while on the road, I appreciate free Wi-Fi. High quality pillows and a comfy bed sure help me sleep better.

Like Maren said, I appreciate the basics. Really, though, unless your plan is to spend most of your time in the hotel, a comfy bed (plliows, blanket, etc) and free WiFi should do the trick. I'd think that most spa hotels would be a traveler's final destination rather than just a simple place to stay. You have to decide what kind of trip you're taking before you look for amenities. If it's a spa girls getaway, the hotel should have it all. It should be a one-stop-shop (spa, bar, restaurant, etc). If you're planning a girls getaway to New York City, chances are, you are only going to be in the hotel for sleep (and writing if you're a TBEXer)!

Wireless internet connection is very important. Of course good bathroom amenities such as razor is also vital sewing kit is a must, iron is something to look into plus hairdryer.

I usually stay in hostels, but I generally look for:

* free wifi
* free lockers (if a hostel)
* no smoking inside
* high ratings on reviews websites

A good site for looking for hostels and budget hotels is TFT Hostels because it lets you filter results by amenities.

Free Internet access. But usually, as I try to cram in as much as I can during the day, I'm just happy if they have an available room and their restaurant is open.
