Travel Blog Exchange

Why are Travel Blog Exchange Meetups in the most expensive countries on the planet?

I have to wonder this: why are all these Travel Blog Exchange conferences in the most expensive countries on the planet?

Why not have them in places where travelers can actually afford to go?

Like Central America, Southeast Asia, Morocco, the Balkans -- 90% of the countries on the planet.

Hello!

Just joined TBEX and my first post.

I was keen on attending but Copenhagen did put me off in terms of the fact that it can be pricey.....however a lot of the people who attended did tell me that they managed to find some cheapish places to eat and stay.

Its also a tough call for people crossing over from the States...I sympathise.

If it means anything, we were in Vancouver (the site for TBEX '11) earlier this year and found dining out to be quite reasonable.

By reasonable, do you mean $2 a plate?

probably, but then you had to pay extra to actually have food put on the plate!

Haha, very true.

By "reasonable," I meant dinner for 2 people for around $20-$30 (depending upon how much you order of course).  If you want $2/plate, then my guess is you're going to have to travel to some countries that are considered more undeveloped. I believe I had $5/plate food in Thailand...maybe try there.

$20 to $30 for one meal?

That is like two entire days of travel in most of the world.

My point exactly.

Wade, thanks for the question about TBEX conference locations. Meliha accurately notes below many of the reasons we've chosen the locations we have so far. But rest assured, we're hard at work trying to find sponsors and the staff time to organize meetings in South America and Asia. The reality and logistics of the undertaking of organizing TBEX conferences means we need help from local tourism offices, etc., since we're a small team ....AND we're just travel bloggers like you, not a huge expo company or anything.

Bear with us. See you in perhaps Thailand, Colombia or somewhere else soon...

Sounds good, Kim. I understand fully why you have your conferences where you do. I was just raising a point as I observed a pattern.

Thanks for your time in considering my proposition, I appreciate it.

Hope to meet you at some point.

My vote for TBEX 2012 – Buenos Aires.

Good suggestion...but I've been trying to visit BA for the last 2 years and every time I check flights from SF, they're expensive...so while BA is beautiful and I definitely want to go there...having a conference there will really depend upon the time of year and the travel costs associated with it.

US passport holders also need to pay $140 to enter Argentina through the BA airport.
