Writing in Hotel Rooms. Or airports. Or train stations. Do you?

Do you like to write in hotel rooms? On planes? At train stations? The poet Baudelaire called these "transient places of travel." I blog about my recent experience writing in a condo resort on Kauai here: http://bit.ly/oUB0YP. Please weigh in with your thoughts here or in the comments section of the blog post. Either way.

I pretty much write best in areas that are quiet, or have very minimal noise. That said, I don't really have a problem writing my articles in hotel rooms or on planes when I travel. Train stations are going to be a bit of a challenge. Perhaps if I can find a relatively quiet coffee shop.

I sometimes do my best writing on the fly.  I'm especially fond of taking my laptop on local trains here in Sydney -- I can pump out an article in no time!  Crazy.

I actually haven't been on a trip since I really started working on my travel blog. My girlfriend and I are heading to Puerto Rico next month for some R&R and I plan on bringing my laptop, so I'll let you know how it goes. It's going to be a weird feeling "working" while I'm on a trip.

Oddly enough, if I'm inspired, I'll write on anything---anywhere---little tiny notebooks, napkins, boarding passes.  Barring too many yakkers, crying babies or seat back kicking toddlers, if I have a notebook computer, I like writing on airplanes---forced disconnectedness without distractions---other than turbulence, landing, guy in the window seat needing to get out to use the bathroom, trying to drink from a cup with no where to put it down, etc.

The first draft of the last post on my newish blog www.boomeresque.com was written on a bus in Mexico in a little tiny notebook.

I love writing in hotel rooms in the morning.  I write about travel with kids so my routine is to explore a city by day (late nights are a thing of the past for me) , sleep on it, creep out of bed before the kids wake up, make a nice coffee (part of my hotel room selection criteria), and get in a little work before they wake up.  Once they are up, I buy myself another hour by letting them watch cartoons in bed (it's their vacation too, right?).

During the day I take notes on my iPhone or snap a picture to remember things.
