I don't know how many of you are members of About55, an on-line community for baby boomers. I write an occasional travel blog there which I will make more regular as I dedicate more time to it.

So far, I've written a series on traveling to Costa Rica, as well as one article on Antarctica and I just posted a new one on India. You can peruse the site as a guest or join for no charge at www.about55.com

How about an adventure to start your morning? Trying new activities is a wonderful energizer, as I learned on an eco-trip in Cancun:

It's ironic that our travel fears and what makes the best stories are the exact same thing. When your undertaking a 26-month round the world trip - as my husband and I did a few years ago - you know you're going to get a few stories out of it.

In Safari From Hell I recount the story of our overland trek in Africa in which a clueless guide provides us with all of the stress, discomfort and , finally, danger that we thought we had paid to avoid.

Even experienced travelers make mistakes that leave them kicking themselves as they reflect on what they did wrong. But as more mature individuals they do have more life experience to get themselves out of trouble before things get too sticky.

Thanks for the reference back to your post, Donna. I had read it and it didn't occur to me that the reference wasn't clear. It was an excellent story, by the way, which everyone -- not just women -- should read and follow the advice given by the experienced travelers interviewed.

Thanks, Gabriele for the kind words.

For other readers in this group, Gabriele is referring to a post I wrote this week about baby boomer women solo travel advice:

I haven't traveled alone a lot but I do enjoy it. I always meet a lot more people because I tend to chat more with fellow travelers and seat mates while when traveling with my husband I don't do that as much. I've met many people who wouldn't travel any other way.

Donna Hall and fellow lone women travellers are amazing me. Their genuine reports and advice for single lady travel strike me as priceless.

I remember having seen many ads in the London Gumtree for expats where mainly younger people are even looking for travel companions besides jobs. This may even mean taking part in a sailing trip in the Mediterranean. Some are searching for travel company to help pay towards petrol (gaz) costs for driving. Not all travel means air travel only or may be combined. When I was young I advertised in a newspaper once to find a lady travel company. The friend I made through it joined me on other trips later on. I don't like to travel on my own, unless to visit family.

Do you know what a tuk tuk is? And do you know why the other tuk tuk always travels faster than your own? Find out the answer at: www.dorisgallan.com
