Deciding on categories. Advice needed
Hello all,
I hold my hands up. When I started my blog two years ago, I used 'tags' and 'categories' in the same way. As a result my categories list is now huge and unwieldy (see goinglocaltravel.com)
I'm about to trim it down to size as I come to the end of a full redesign.
I would love to run my list by someone. And I hope it might help others too.
Anyone got any thoughts on these?
Is overlap ok? Or should I try and file posts under one category only?
Travel advice
Travel writing (or travel journalism?)
Local travel
Travel networking
Hotels and hostels
Budget travel
Internet (Too similar to travel networking?)
South America (Separate ones for Argentina and/or Buenos Aires too? This is where I live and I write about it a lot)
Transport (? Not sure about this one. I don't often write about it, but could be handy)
Ethics and environment (This will often overlap with Local travel)
Food (or local food?)
Language
(Ps any thoughts on the new look are welcome too. It's got a few glitches still and missing elements - including some photo/thumbnail probs - but I'm nearly there)

My 2 cents:
Have 10 main categories and use tags to cover more narrow topics. Example:
Category: Lodging
Tags: Hotels, Hostels, B&B
And is local travel too vague? Or do you only write about one specific place? If so, you wouldn't need the local travel tag. It may need to be more specific like:
Parent category: South America with sub-categories of Argentina, Buenos Aires, etc. -

Thanks Jody. Much appreciated. 'Local travel' is vague in a way, but this is something I am trying to push and hopefully will seem less vague to my readers as it's a major theme of the blog. The only trouble is that it may have too many entries. Sub categories will be helpful. Cheers.
