Travel Blog Exchange

Congratulations to all TBEX members nominated in the Lonely Planet travel blog awards.

It's a big name to be associated with and being nominated with other good sites is a real honour for Linda and me.

What do you think about them?

I wonder if one can have the latest comment come up first:-)
I am very envious of all the LP blog award nominees!! What a great accomplishment! So awesome for you guys.
It's a giant feather in my cap, as (I thought) a complete unknown to have been nominated. To be honest, I was thoroughly unaware of infighting or losing friends due to contests and blogging. To me it's all about making the world smaller, more accessible, more human. It's my release valve for the words that jumble around and just want to get out. I'm thrilled when other people want to come along for the ride.

I'm very unlikely to win, and I'll just keep being thrilled that I was nominated for a long, long time. I'm proud to be part of a field of such qualified competitors. Good luck to all, and may I add, especially the underdogs!
First off, congrats to all who have been nominated! It's a great achievement. I remember when LP first linked out to Travellerspoint back in 2002 as if it were yesterday (it also helps I was chilling in Montezuma, Costa Rica at the time ;) ). The sense of pride in what you've built up is one to cherish.

Having said that, as one of the judges (kidding, but you can still send chocolate my way!) if I was judging I might actually frown on pimping yourself one too many times. What Jeanne says about promoting travel, blogging and LP is all true, but you can do all those things without mentioning you have been nominated over and over again. I'm yet to meet people that are active travel bloggers/writers/site owners that don't bust their chops working/blogging. Hands up for 60+ hour work weeks.... Everyone feels they deserve credit and to see others posting about their nominations over and over can be pretty annoying.

On the other hand, ignoring is certainly an easy option, so no need to get worked up about it too much. Personally, I find that my sense of respect and appreciation for that other person's tweets/posts decreases as it happens. I can live with that and I'm sure they can too. Heck, I go overboard from time to time on twitter with a certain hashtag that strikes close to home (#schiphol and #ie6 being two recent occasions). These are things I'm passionate about or that touch me deeply. When that happens I don't really care how others view me. I'm not twittering to gain respect, friends or otherwise; I'm doing it because I enjoy it and it's a way of connecting with others that understand some of the things so many in my offline circles don't.

Basically trying to say; understanding the others frame of mind is key, don't overdo it and don't let things needlessly bother you. Congrats again to everyone nominated!!
Only 27 hours left now, se make sure you vote and promote it if you have any interest.
The voting closes for the awards at Midday 20th March 2009.

There was a little confusion about 12am - some people see it as midday, others midnight - in fact, as a time 12am doesn't even exist... how odd. So to be clear.

Voting for the 2009 Lonely Planet Travel Bloggers Awards closes Friday 20th March at Midday.
