Promotion, promotion, promotion

We're a newer blog (all of five weeks old) and I spend literally 8 hours a day promoting the site. I've done everything but sell my soul -- which I would do for 100K uniques -- but are numbers still climb so slowly.

How do you promote your blog?
What gets you the most visits?
What is a waste of time?
How in the heck do you get Google to notice you?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated,

Ohhhh. I see. You'll get by, I started that way before even now I'm not really good in promoting in twitter.

Haha. Those weren't entrapment links, I have google adsense so I place them to wherever possible.

Well if I wasn't overwhelmed by having a travel blog I am now! I wonder what is considered 'good' traffic by everyone elses standards? I'm happy with the amount of people that are reading my blog but I know I've got a lot of learning and hard work ahead of me! Better get to work!

Wow! Looks like lots of work ahead for me too! I bought my domain in January but didn't post my first blog post until late February so I guess we started then!

I find it is gradually growing, but I think it is mostly my friends and family still reading at this stage! I have a Facebook and Twitter account for the blog which helps promote it alot and recently opened a Google+ that seems to be going nowhere.

I must say I really am loving blogging, its the best decision I've taken regarding my travels, will be so good to be able to look back on it in years to come.

The one thing I'm still confused about is exchanging links...how do you go about this? Ask people to add your link to their blog? In what way...a links page? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

Gonna go set up my Pinterest now as photography is a huge part of my site!
