For me, coming up with a blog tagline is as difficult as writing an "about me" section. I think having a good one can be important when you're establishing a blog to give the reader a sense of what it's all about beyond the blog title.

I am about to launch a new blog and want a new tagline to go with it. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to create a good tagline. Short and sweet or long and descriptive? Flowery or to the point?

IMHO, I think travellers in general area little more cerebral and enjoy witty and insightful taglines - even esoteric ones. Longer, more "right-brained" tags (e.g. "Budget travel made easy" or "Photos around the world") can work but do they really differentiate you enough from the other blogs out there?

What's the gist(s) of your new blog? Where are you hosting?
I still can't think of anything, so I decided to leave it blank for now! I put a little about me section on a sidebar in a prominent position. I'm hoping that will catch the readers' eyes and let them know what the blog is about. The site is now up, here is the link: http://girlunstoppable.com/
Hi Ekua,

I've enjoyed your blog since it's last incarnation....ok, I looked at the new one...Girl, Unstoppable. I think the tagline has to be what you probably wanted to express in the blog name but didn't have enough space. I would probably use a tagline like:

Girl, Unstoppable.....
.....................................exploring the world's secrets one glorious step at a time.

Well, you get the idea....

It would have to express what makes you tick as a writer or traveler or whatever your purpose in writing it that you'd like your blog to convey.

Good luck....take your time, think it over because there is no rush. It will probably come to you in a dream.

Hey Renee, thanks for the suggestions! You're right, just like blog posts, it'll probably come to me one night while I'm trying to sleep ;)
You are quite welcome, Ekua!
Ekua,
Keep on doing what you're doing: great photos btw. Great NAME, too. If you can come up with "Girl Unstoppable" you can do anything.

But, I know EXACTLY what you mean and usually it stops me at the "what am i gonna say about this place?" stage or right at the start, ya know - I don't even get to the tagline.

Great question, too and it's very important! You want to grab the readers attention and click on your link to start with. Then you want to grab their attention (I think a photo or a map is good to lead off) by the throat and damn near force them to read what you've written.

Only the thought of not writing ANYTHING keeps me going. Right now I'm trying to work up the energy to keep describing our two month trip and people asking me to keep writing. I get the cold chills thinking, how am I going to keep going?

Usually, though, I start with the text and then gradually it dawns on me what I'm trying to say. Here's the title of my latest post (if you will permit): "Desert, red sand and wild animals". Not bad, kind of quizzical, maybe draaaw the reader in a bit. What red sand? Red? Wild animals? Like dangerous ones?

I think it's just a bit of writer's block that goes away (for me anyway) when I just SIT DOWN AND START WRITING!!! Sorry, I got carried away. But for me it's just the act of just starting and finding a flow, a rhythm, an idea or two even when I was clueless 20 minutes before. It happens. Organically and naturally.
I completely agree..
On my trips .. I just write and write and put up maps and pics...
eventually the right byline comes up ... or sometimes it's obvious ...
for example : "What not to wear in Spain and Portugal …"
http://www.rishiray.com/2010/03/12/what-not-to-wear-in-spain-and-po...

easy and goes with the glow .. not ever post will be mindblowing or spectacular
