Question: are you supposed to Stumble your own articles?

I Stumble mine. I'm not sure if I should or not, and I don't Stumble everything, but I usually Thumbs Up it and then share with some SU friends I've made. And then of course stop by this group and ask for Stumbles. Friend me on there if you want and share posts with me that way too. http://www.stumbleupon.com/stumbler/courtscribe

I stumble mine sometimes, but try to have others do it first (discover) and then thumbs up it after that.

I do from time to time, but it seems that they get more traction if someone else Stumbles them!

I click the stumble button on my posts to improve visibility (and I have noticed a difference in the number of visits on posts that are submitted to stumbleupon). Of course, my site is a bit newer than most, so every bit helps. I figure I can stop doing this once I get more visitors who click those share buttons on their own.
