Permalink Reply by Sara Cooke on June 3, 2011 at 3:44pm Seeing as friday night is game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoffs (Is that the night of the kickoff party you're talking about?), most of the city is going to be staring at a screen somewhere (unless we sweep the series, of course!) If you're near the art gallery, you'll be near the madness, as there are giant screen set up outside in a few places around the downtown core. And any bar will be packed.
But if you'd rather ignore the hockey madness, there's an excellent cafe just across the road from the Art Gallery called Caffe Artigiano that will likely be a bit quieter and serves a great latte. 763 Hornby. Open until 9.

If I remember correctly, the kickoff party starts at 8pm. Maybe we could meet at Caffe Artigiano around 7 or 7:30ish...? It looks like there are about 10-15 of us(?).
Is this discussion area good enough (for communicating among us) or do we need something else like a Twitter list or a Tweetup? (I'm new to meeting other bloggers/Twitter users so not sure what works best...)

Permalink Reply by Mark Walsh on June 3, 2011 at 2:53pm Yup, I'm new... Does anyone have any plans for Saturday evening during the Trip Advisor party? I was too late getting a ticket, and will be looking for something to fill that time. Any suggestions?
Permalink Reply by Amy Smithers on June 3, 2011 at 3:17pm I was unable to get a ticket for the Saturday party as well, so absolutely open to other plan suggestions.
Permalink Reply by Meliha on June 3, 2011 at 4:48pm I'm in the same boat too Mark. (I didn't realize the schedule page required you to RSVP for anything...until it was already too late.)
Maybe we should start a separate discussion thread for alternative Sat night events/meetups since there are more than just us 1st timers who also don't have tickets to the TA party....
I'm new to the Tbex rollcall as well, but from what I've learned going to travel meetups around San Francisco and elsewhere is that the community is super (SUPER) welcoming. Since travel is the common denominator, and since we all love travel, it's pretty easy to start conversations with people. I don't think getting involved should be a problem for most. I think the biggest problem will be deciding who you want to talk to and finding them in the flesh.
Just my thoughts. Hope to meet some of you guys up in YVR next week! I'll be at the kickoff party on Friday. :)
