I find that when working on projects, I spend about 70% of my time with client communications such as email and Skype and only 30% of my time working on the project itself. Does anyone else seem to spend so much time going back and forth with clients? What do you use for client communications - anyone use Basecamp? I hardly ever work on projects without Basecamp anymore.

What's the link to Basecamp?
I work remotely, but as a writer, so I don't have this problem. My husband also works remotely, but for a US based firm as a graphic designer, and he's constantly on Skype. He hasn't used Basecamp, but for the most part Skype has worked for him. If the internet connection isn't very strong, it's a nightmare. Otherwise they don't know the difference.
Spend most time on Skype, & e-mail. ( spend about 50% communication and 50% actually getting anything done :). As Christine mentioned -hard when internet connection is bad ( as in my last 6 weeks). Will try Basecamp. Thanks for the link!
Our situation is like Christine's. I translate, so I spend limited time communicating with customers. My husband's work is customer intensive. He often has to hold their hands and talk them through things remotely. It can take hours, its not always easy to get a great internet connection. I've never heard of Basecamp, so will look into it. Currently we work remotely mostly when we're not traveling, but we're looking to change all that.
Basecamp and Highrise are great. Gotomeeting is good for allowing people to view each others' screens.
