About your solo travel question... It's much easier to make friends on the road than at home, and those friendships become deeper faster. These two factors, in my opinion, contribute to making and keeping friends when you travel solo. As you travel, you'll meet plenty of other travelers. In fact, you'll never be on your own unless you want to. And you'll probably end up traveling part of the way with one of those friends. Travel together deepens bonds. I can't imagine anyone traveling solo ever being lonely!
