Wow, your breakdown sounds a lot like mine, except I also have posts about multicultural parenting. I wouldn't start a new blog because a) I don't have a big enough readership and even if I did, I would assume I got them because they like…

I have struggled with this as well. I had a blog where I wrote about my travels, but since I have become an expat and more settled, I shifted the focus of my blog to life as an expat. Finding the right tone has been an issue since then. I find my…

Fashion don'ts in Caracas - Part two

The other day, I saw a gentleman get out of the elevator in my building wearing no shirt, swim trunks and no shoes. Guess where he was from?Yes, a new American family has moved in and this guy didn’t waste any time getting comfortable. Granted, he was heading to the pool, but that is just something you never see done here. From myfirst…See More

Goooooooooooooll!!

World Cup 2010 is HERE!!! I’m so excited about being in a country that will basically shut down for this. The first match is tomorrow between South Africa and Mexico at 9:30 AM Caracas time. This World Cup means so much to so many. For me, it’s always been an amazing display of nationalism. The funny thing is that you don’t even have to be from the country for which you’re rooting (i.e. last time Haiti participated was 1974 :-( ). I’m also ecstatic that it’s the first time it’s being hosted on…See More

One travel blog is good. A group of travel bloggers exchanging links and sharing advice is better.

well, between caracas and havana, we definitely have hit on some hot politics! It has forced me to be very careful - there are some very rabid anti Castro people out there (to wit: the wiki entry for cuba had to be frozen while litigation was…

You make some great points, I too, have had to protect myself and my privacy in my blog. But I don't feel that limits me: I change people's names, I might change their nationality; when I talk about going to a dinner party at a…

Oh yeah, I can relate. My issue is that most people want to talk politics and I don't. Even people in the states who read my blog will sometimes reply asking what I think about the current political situation. I try to give neutral answers and…

In a word, yes!! I started my blog because I was (and still am) having a hell of a time selling articles about my home o' choice: Cuba. Seeing you're in Caracas, maybe you can relate. People are very resistant to hear good things about…

You say parcha, I say something else

Venezuelans are BIG on natural fruit juice. There is not one restaurant that I have been to that doesn’t offer an assortment of freshly squeezed juices. I’ve been open to trying all kinds and have discovered fruit that I don’t think should be made into juice (e.g. grapes, tamarind) and those that I love.

This, my friends, is my favorite juice. The fruit it comes from is called parcha here in Venezuela (and I assume most of… Continue
