Aussie Travel Advice is a blog/resource site aimed at Aussies going overseas. There's stuff on here for everybody through: a travel health section by a GP, and loads of other general advice and destination tips. Check it out!
Perhaps the most dodgy aspect of travel agency practice in Australia is the pushing of 'preferred' products onto customers.
This is not technically a rip off, but if you’re after unbiased product advice steer clear of most travel agents.
The major agencies will have certain tour companies and even airlines from which they will get higher commissions (which can be double that of other tour companies they might sell).

Shanna, I think you'll find the networking -- meeting other bloggers -- is pretty cool. And some of the seminars and info, too. I think if you go with limited expectations, you won't be disappointed.
