Welcome Friends, Fellow Passion Seekers and Travel Junkies

Connections are big for me. I have found that since beginning my blog back in 2006, I have been brought to the most AMAZING people in the world through the inter-highway. I have many passions in life. I am planning my big transfer to Florence, Italy this year. This is it! For 6 years now of working on and off here in Chicago and then moving myself to a different part of Florence, I am a British Citizen through my mother who was born in London. In this way I am able to live in the city I fell in love with in 2002. Along the way I have grown to love writing about Florence and anything having to do with Italy. That would make me a Travel writer as well as a Travel Consultant. I operate the site Florence by Katerina(started in June 2008) still working on it very hard. I am TEFL trained teacher and I will start my settlement in Florence as an English Teacher. There is much more about me but this is the basics at this moment. I enjoy hearing from everyone, old and new, and would love to collaborate with some of your wonderful people on this fabulous site!
a presto amici :)

A Sunday in Florence

Today was a glorious day. The sun was shining everywhere. I felt alive. I decided to take a walk with amore mio. I caught myself smiling as I strolled hand and hand with my love...  Amore, you gave me a great bit of energy to start the week. Grazie tanto!!

Doors Opening--Pushing through

On this, the second week of my new job, I am beginning to understand my challenge more. The nights I have arrived home around 11pm are rough, so I am going to shift my thinking to something more positive. Eating dinner at 11pm is new for me as well. So in true "Katie" fashion, I am looking for the positivity.

1. I am lucky to have a job in these difficult times.

2. It ...

Persey is back!

Back when I first arrived in Florence, I was visited by a special friend from my garden. I was so happy to see her!  It gave me the sign that I am on the right track. Persevering towards everything that is special and important in my life. I am not hiding or being someone I am not. I am doing what Katie would do in every situation. It ...

Doors Opening--Day 1

My first day is over at my new school. I made it through. It was a little nerve-wrecking. I made it through. I am not a good teacher yet but I'm getting  there. I enjoyed meeting the students and having fun with them. I think I am a fun teacher, I need to find my nitch with this school that's all. It will come. I really find that people are attracted to teachers that are animated. I try ...

A Trip to Volterra

I was fortunate to visit a hill town that I have never been to. On Sunday I traveled with a friend up and down the winding roads of Tuscany to the town of Volterra. Now I have only heard great things of this place so I was excited to visit nonetheless. Volterra is known for its Teatro Romano, it's Etruscan artifacts and the most famous after all that is the local

Hello Kate, Just a gentle reminder!

"I thought you might like to promote 'Florence by Katerina' by writing an article about the city from your perspective which you could possibly use on your own website? Just an idea, what do you think? No rush..."

Glad to see you made it!

Ciao, Adrian

My Favorte things about Wine

My first sip of Wine was in 2002 when we arrived to study for a semester of exploring and enriching our lives from boring Minnesota to enchanting Florence. Wine has been a big part of my life since first stepping foot in Italy. Now I must have wine where ever I am. For Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner...ok...I am kidding about Breakfast. I guess the way I grew more fond of it was when I was sitting in a wine bar with my friend Tina one weekend in Perugia, we hopped from one wine bar to another and after… Continue

Less is More

Wanted to make an announcement, I have paid off one of my credit cards!!! YIPPPEEEE!!!!

Since doing that I started looking at my life around me. Thinking how happy I truly am with the clothes I still have and not thinking that I need to purchase more. My closet full of clothes tells me, you have enough, Kate. I decided that I am going to clean out my closet and get rid of all the junk that I have kept throughout my years on this earth. From high school memorabilia, old T-shirts I… Continue

Losing is half the battle

I sat there crying on the field wondering what I could have done better. My other teammates have already started the lonely walk back to the locker room. I notice that I am one of 3 players sitting on the field in unbearable pain and anguish over what a horrible game was just played. I felt so strongly about soccer for many years and today I know how it truly feels to lose. To this day I can't remember what the score was or who we played up in Winona, MN, but I will always remember the feeling I… Continue

Be Patient with your Dreams

"You must be patient", Piero Antinori explains about wine making, "And to wait until the wine is good enough, the vines are old enough to produce a good wine".

Exactly.

I must be patient because if I try to force anything, it will go awry. As much as I did push back and forth of living in Florence and not living there, I knew all along that was where I wanted to be. And just like the Marchese Antinori said, I realized how much I am not being a patient person. I know I will be in Florence when… Continue
