According to the Horwath HTL survey, the primary destination for luxury travel is Europe, listed by 41% of the respondents followed by Asia-Pacific (27%). In Europe, France (14%) and Italy (9%) are the favorites. In Asia-Pacific the top destinations are the Maldives, Japan, India and French Polynesia, Thailand and New Zealand. About 1.4 mn Brits will attend at least one wedding abroad in 2011 while more than 4 mn have been to one in the past three years. Cost for marrying in the UK is 20,000 pounds whereas the average cost of marrying abroad is 6500 pounds. Hence 51,300 ceremonies are estimated to take place overseas in 2011.

Spurning luxury and excess, deprivation holidays are the new trend for North American business executives. Instead of relaxing, stressed out consumers enroll in boot camp-style spa resorts, take up adventure racing or extreme trekking to improve their health and wellness.
