Road Trip Through the Flint Hills of Kansas

The ground was still saturated from the storms that had plagued the area the day before. It did not take long before my boots and pant legs from the knees down were wet and my legs getting cold. The early morning air was barely above the freezing point as we made our way across the lake dam and down the short trail that leads to the three level waterfall. I decided to head further down the trail to start with the bottom falls and then work my way up. I went as far as the underbrush…See More

Christmas in Kansas City

The holidays always bring a flurry of activity to Kansas City. The colder weather does not seem to slow anyone down as they journey to The Plaza to witness the annual Christmas lights being turned on, or the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas tree. There are theatrical shows, such as “…See More

The City Where the West Started

Sometimes we are so concerned with traveling to far off exotic lands to have something exciting to write about, but sometimes there are interesting places within a short drive of where we live. Before I go someplace I always try to find the history of the place to include in what I write. Saint Joseph, Missouri is no different. The Buchanan County Courthouse is a great example of late 1800’s architecture. It is…See More

A Little Piece of Kansas City

As Saturday morning arrived we still had not decided on anything that we wanted to do. We talked about Watkins Mill but the weather was still pretty chilly and I am already fighting a head cold. In the end I just grabbed my camera bag and we went to just drive through Kansas City to see if we could find anything interesting. The first place we came across was the Just Off Broadway Theatre on at 3501 Central Street. They had done some redesigning since we had last been there which made the main…See More

The "Villisca Ax Murder House"

I have wanted to go to Villisca, Iowa and visit what is called the Ax Murder House for several years. It is widely believed to still be haunted by the ghosts of the eight people that were killed there and on occasion a figure that is believed to be the murderer makes its presence known. Now I will get my chance to visit the site of the heinous murders that to this day remain unsolved.A Little History of the MurdersSometime after midnight on July 10, 1912, six members of the Moore family and two…See More
