More and more corporations are starting to engage in international volunteer programs, they are doing this as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. Corporate responsibility helps to align organizations business operations with social values. Volunteering abroad as a part of your corporate social responsibility will help your organization address expectations of some of your other stake holders, including your investors and employees. It therefore does not only help you to…Continue

Let’s get a few things out of the way. #1. I’m assuming you are camping, in a tent. #2. I’m assuming that packing space is a concern.
A sleeping bag is one of the most important pieces of personal gear you need to buy. If it gets too cold and you opt to spend the night in a hotel, it will cost much more than camping. Over the course of a long trip, that warm and cozy sleeping bag may save you a lot of money.…

The last 6 weeks saw me taking in conference after conference after conference here in the beautiful city of Vancouver. Needless to say I met a lot of people and learned a few things along the way.

Over the years, 'C' and I have become 'well-seasoned off-season travelers'. That's right – we believe that by travelling in the off season we only have to pay half the money and only have to deal with half the annoying tourists. Tell me how that doesn't work. And plus, it gives you a real insight into how rich people travel. Needless to say that it was with great glee and sly triumph that we booked several nights at Kamala Beach's …Continue

If I could wish for just one piece of technology to be created it would be a teleporter. The one from Star Trek would do just fine. “Beam me up, Scotty”. I think everyone in the world would be a lot happier.
Let’s face it, there is nothing nice about flying. The longer the flight, the more painful it is. As a Seattle native, with a South African spouse, I’ve been on my fair share of long flights. Two back to back 10 hour flights is enough to wilt even the toughest…
To be honest, the word itinerary makes me shudder. They are terrible, constraining, time-consuming, usually impractical schedules with the goal of making our travels easier. Except time after time, they will fail. That two-week trip will either feel like a marathon or a disappointment.
How do you balance seeing enough, without trying to see too much? You don’t. That is the best part of travel. You never know what the world is going to throw at you. You don’t know if it…

My relationship with Silverton is complicated. We’re on, then off, then on again and off again. I want so much for that mountain to show me some love. But we’re dysfunctional. I mean how can we not be? Look at their logo.
It all started when I first tried to ski Silverton four years ago. But let me explain to you what…
Obtaining a volunteer visa is one of the sure ways to avoid getting fined or deported for not having the proper paper work to be in a country. For instance in Ecuador if you over stay say with a tourist visa, even for one day then you stand a chance of paying an outright $ 200 in fines, and if you stay longer then you may pay up to $ 2000. So to be on the safe side for a volunteer you need to make sure you apply for the proper volunteer visa, to avoid these problems.

The second stop of the day was the Dickerson Park Zoo. Contrary to other reviews I had read that said the zoo was really small, I found it was a decent size, though not as big as the Kansas City Zoo. The first area we came to was South America, which is home to Capuchin Monkeys, Maned Wolf, and Macaws among others.
Australia houses the kangaroos, Emus, Parrots, and the Petting Zoo. My daughter Kim runs ahead while Connor stays back with my wife Katy and me. The petting zoo…Continue

Gluten-free dinner in London is easy if you do your homework, and I’m here to help with that. What kind of food do you like? Do you want Fish and Chips? Indian? Thai? Please tell me you don’t want Italian. Italian is so boring. (Shakespeare would never have eaten Italian. Definitely a curry for Will. It is the British…Continue

There are many types of spares and safety equipment to consider packing, whether you are on a weekend getaway or a year long adventure. To help you decide which equipment you need, I have compiled the list below. It is by no means comprehensive, rather an overview of the vehicle spares and safety equipment we carry with us on our overlanding trips.
A small set of basic tools can help out in…Continue
