Dinner in London...Gluten-free

Gluten-free dinner in London is easy if you do your homework, and I’m here to help with that. What kind of food do you like? Do you want Fish and Chips? Indian? Thai? Please tell me you don’t want Italian. Italian is so boring. (Shakespeare would never have eaten Italian. Definitely a curry for Will. It is the British…

New Orleans Nice

My first trip to New Orleans was full of the expected, classic tourist attractions. Husband was photographing location shots for a client, so his assignment was to capture easily recognizable images of The Big Easy. While our days were full of Bourbon Street, pretty iron balconies and po-boys, New…

Gluten-free Lunch in London

London has no shortage of fast, trendy lunch restaurants. Pret A Manger and EAT are the most popular, but you’ll also find Upper Crust in railway stations. These fast-food shops grew out of the traditional sandwich shop,… Continue

Gluten-free in London

Traveling with Celiac Disease (CD) means you have to do a bit more pre-trip homework than people who can shovel any ole thing in their gobs. If you’re a little like me, you normally stick to salad bars and very plain foods that you know are gluten-free. But if you’re a lot like me—an adventureholic with a voracious appetite—you’ll want to try the local food.

The more you know, the more you can enjoy. Over the next few months, I’m going to share my research…

Farmer’s Market Eats - Cooking In

On my last trip to Seattle I was fortunate enough to stay with my friend and her family. While I was there we made a trip to one of the Saturday Farmer’s Markets where I learned a valuable lesson – Seasonal

produce is cheap! So cheap in fact, that for about $10-$15 you can buy

enough fresh delicious produce to create a meal that will satisfy about

six hungry people. This got me thinking about all of my attempts save

money by cooking instant noodles (nothing against their…

Ahan Thai: An Epicure's Conclusions

Now that I have spent nearly an entire year dining on local Thai cuisine every day, I feel that I can declare a sound judgment (backed by meals and meals of evidence) on the dishes that make my heart beat a little faster upon sight. Without further ado, here are my most favorite Thai dishes... ever.…

A Crappy Situation

Take a load off! :: Very clean!

Well I am still adamant that street meat doesn't give me diarrhea. But something sure as hell did. Last Friday, Sam and I went out for our usual Friday Night bouzi and wonton soup after class. And when we got

back to the school to wait for the van, I suddenly got that…

Adding Google Earth to do a virtual trip to the best food locations in Europe

The goal of GourmetOrigins.com is to open a “virtual window” to the best

foods in Europe and the places where they come from and that contribute

so much to their uniqueness, hence our map-based approach. We are now

taking this approach further with the addition of a Google Earth feature

to our maps. You just need to download Google Earth . Once you have it,

every time you visit a food page, here is one example, the food page… Continue

Top 4 Meals Abroad

When Shaun and I travel, one of the things I look forward to the most is the cuisine of the different countries we visit. I am the first to say that, while it is important to stay healthy on your trips, I will also be one of the first people that will advocate to my inner fatty - and I'm okay with that. Sure, while my husband Shaun miraculously loses weight when we are abroad from the copious amounts of walking we do, I find myself huffing and puffing at the gym when we get back from the 5 lbs… Continue

Food in Russia...

Prior to my first trip to Russia, I was so excited to get there and see this amazing country, but on the inside, I was quite nervous about one thing—the food. I don’t think I’m a picky eater, but after comparing my diet with those I work with…I am extremely picky. As you know, Russia is known for its caviar and vodka-two things that I do NOT enjoy. After my first meal, which included both of those things, I couldn’t help but think…it’s going to be a long 7 days!

I did finally find… Continue

Japanese Home Cooking!

"Post from Aly of the hopandjaunt crew! RSS and Twitter up and running!

“What would you like to eat for your goodbye dinner party?”

“I want to eat stuff that a Japanese mom would make on an average Wednesday night!”

Normally this would be an absurd answer. Luckily it was accepted as only slightly absurd in this crowd.… Continue

Food Halls Around the World

Whenever I am shopping while abroad, I inevitably find myself in a food hall. At the most basic level, a food hall is any indoor area that offers a variety of food for sampling and purchasing. They are often found in department stores, but can also operate independently. A food hall is more than an indoor market or run of the mill mall food court, however. A food hall is above all an exhibition of local and international artisinal food.…

Christmas in Cadiz, Spain: Food, Hostels & New Friends

Clean, refreshed and ready for a full evening I lazily drifted from my room to the common area after a hearty nap. There, I checked my e-mail, chatted with the other hostel goers and then decided to set out for a snack. After a leisurely walk exploring the narrow, winding streets around the hostel I eventually made my way back to my favorite greasy spoon. Just up the alleyway and around the corner from the hostel...the place was a small… Continue

Where to eat in NY - when you're on reserve

Those of you who follow me know I love all things flying, movies, books, and food - especially food. If you've been following my posts on GALLEY GOSSIP you know I'm stuck in New York on reserve all month. You also know that my two year-old son is spending time with his grandparents in Long Island while I finish the month out sitting around the crashpad in Queens, watching bad reality TV (I love it!) while waiting for crew schedule to call.… Continue
