Pack Your Bags: We're Heading to the Carolina Inn

When I think of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, I think of it as the quintessential Southern town.  Delightful shops and charming bistros surround the state’s oldest public university, which just happens to be my alma mater.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel…

Whatever, Whenever?

I'm a fan of W Hotels. Slick marketing, a trendy crowd and overpriced drinks appeal to the travel elitist in me. But despite my love of most things W, I've always thought their "Whatever, Whenever" catchphrase was a bit gimmicky. I've never really pushed the envelope on this, but I think if they're going to use that phrase to answer the phone, they need to commit to that level of service when a guest requests it.

I'm surprisingly undemanding; you won't see me requesting red-only…

The Incredible Hotels of Vegas: Part One

We tried not to gawk. Seriously. But this town was simply incredible. At this point, we had already seen a guy with a boa constrictor draped over him and had posed with Bumblebee.

Yes, we are THOSE tourists. But please. We had never been to Vegas. This was all new and crazy and fascinating to us. It…

HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY AND THE “ELEMENT” BEHIND BRANDING GREEN

A few years ago I was at the National Tour Association’s “Spring Meet” in Uncasville, Connecticut. Tour operators, suppliers, and destination management companies converged to discuss a number of industry issues. Hot then – and still hot now – is how to turn brands “green” (toward environmental sustainability), capture customer appreciation toward this, and reduce costs. That last bit was challenging in 2006; I remember one hotel sales executive saying that using bio-friendly washing…

Sedona Grill, Savory Southwestern Food at JW Marriott, Cancun

If eating my way around Italy last summer taught me anything, it’s that good food is about quality, not quantity. The Sedona Grill at the JW Marriott was right on par with my Italian philosophy. Tonight, I had one of the best

hotel meals I’ve had in a long time (that includes beating anything I ate at Casa Marina in the Florida Keys). The Sedona Grill at the JW Marriott in Cancun opened… Continue

A hotel for every stage of a relationship (!?)

Maybe because most of my friends are men, but I really enjoyed this article featured on Timesonline. You can take the many advices seriously or simply have fun with the typical English sense of humour.

I found it a pleasant digression. Let’s judge by yourselves……

The Academy Hotel, London

Date of stay: February 2009.

The Academy Townhouse hotel is located on Gower Street, a couple of minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road. For such a good location, the room rate (just short of £100 a night) is a steal.

I’ve read some very mixed reviews about the Academy, but I always like to make my own mind up about a place, and I think it is deserving of its review on a website that only features positive experiences. So here we go.

I’m going to start this with… Continue
