New York City Accessibility Leaves Something to Be Desired

As a kid, I watched movies and television shows that highlighted the magic of New York City.  The romance of places like The Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Central Park have been forever etched in my memory.    There is always something to do; dining, sports, shopping, Broadway Theater, music, or just walking the city streets for some of the best people-watching anywhere.  Then, there is the legacy of the attacks of the World Trade Center which have forever…

A few historic facts and some pictures of the past, present, and possible future Coney Island:

Coney Island was founded by Dutch explorer Henry Hudson in 1609. He would rename it “Conyne Eylandt” or “Rabbit Island” after seizing the land from Native Americans.

“Coney Isle” was the name used on many maps as early as 1690. It would later be changed in 1773 to “Coney Island.”

By the 1860s, Coney Island became a resort town for rich New Yorkers. With streetcars, steamships, and railroads reaching this beachfront area,… Continue
