There are a ton of other places with the -stan suffex. Kurdistan, Baluchistan, Dagastan, Hindustan, Bashkortostan, Waziristan, Kohistan, Nuristan, Arabistan
Stan is in several languages in the region (Persian and Pashtun I think) and means "place".
