Another useful piece of advice would be "Don't publish a blog--publish an 'evergreen' travel-planning site."
A blog is a useful adjunct to a travel-planning site, but unless you have a massive audience (preferably of active travelers, rather than people who simply enjoy reading and talking about travel), a site that's structured by topic and subtopic is likely to be more profitable than a traditional "last in, first out" blog.
