How to get additional visa pages for your passport

So you’ve just returned from your latest multi-country backpacking jaunt abroad and are starting in on the task of cleaning your gear and editing your trip footage. Your boots have barely begun to dry and your Tripfilms video upload bar is at about 50% by the time you’re already planning out your next adventure when you remember that the customs agent at your arriving airport had stamped the very last remaining page of your passport visa book. What’s a globetrotter to do?

This problem is pretty common, particularly for anyone who has visited countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, or Cambodia where the entrance visa is a huge sticker that takes up an entire friggin’ passport page. Euro Union countries have got the transit stamp system down to a science; you can fit as many as 4 or 5 border hops per page. But, don’t panic, you can get more pages and make your passport bulge like a Cormac McCarthy novel. Better still, its free!

Visit the Department of State travel page to download and fill out the ever-so-bureaucratic-sounding DS-4085 form to apply for more visa pages. This process will of course be carried out at the speed and urgency of federal government, which is to say somewhere between a glacier and a handicapped Galapagos tortoise. If time is no factor, this is fine, but if you need a rush there are people who can help you out for a fee.

Sites like RushMyPassport.com and PassportsPlus.com (there are numerous others) can get you additional pages within a few days for anywhere between $50 and $100 depending on how quickly you need the job done.
