If it is true the saying: "in vino veritas", last Saturday was a day full of authenticity and genuine values!
For this trip, accompanied by 5 other curious travelers (our friends), we enjoyed a beautiful day in Montefalco.
This marvellous town, also known as "the balcony of Umbria", for the wonderful view that you can enjoy from his panoramic viewpoint, is a small medieval town featuring narrow streets, well-manteined alleys and restaurants where you can still find the flavors of Grandma's cooking.
We recommend dispassionately Montefalco to people who loves the well-preserved small towns, who loves to taste authentic and never banal food and to who, above all, do not want to renounce to the natural beauties.
Montefalco is known to the public for the wine that is produced in its countryside, the Sagrantino.
At its roots, this wine was only produced in the "sweet" version, by the monasteries' cellars, for a use primarily liturgical. It was in fact used at Mass during the Eucharist, and it's from this Holy moment that derives its name. Sagrantino di Montefalco has become well known to tourists who love food and wine discoveries, and has earned the reputation of one of the best Italian products, since it was produced in its Dry version, in the 70s, and later in 1992, when it obtained the certification DOCG.
During the day we dined at a restaurant in the historic center of Montefalco - the Coccorone - eating the amazing Pappardelle (strips of pasta) with Sagrantino, dressed with minced mushrooms, plus a risotto with Sagrantino. Lunch was accompanied by another classic wine of the area, the Rosso di Montefalco.

For those who'll have one day the great fortune to taste the Pappardelle and will not understand where Sagrantino is, you should know that the wine (in its "sweet" version!!!) is in the dough.... instead of water!
Buon Appetito!
