Opinion: The Value of Twitter - Would I sell my first born?

Well, no.

Sure, those first few months were horrendous, the witching hours, the incessant crying, projectile...err, hang on, what am I writing about?

Ah yes... What would I be prepared to live with to ensure that I can enjoy the now daily ritual that is Twittering? Tweeting to my tweeps. Gettin' twitty. Building connections, partnerships, friendships and all that stuff !

It must survive !

Sure, Twitter is not short of VC funding, nor conjecture on how it plans to monetize the now stratospherically popular social networking 'can't eat gotta tweet' site.

Eventually, the model must be found ! because if Twitter folds, you're going to get a global meltdown not seen since the great Milli Vanilli scam of the 80's, perhaps even worse. So would you...

How you use Twitter depends on your business. Different people will have a wildly different experience.

I have found it to be the #1 tool I have. It is almost on a par with my blog. Almost.

We take a very different approach to twitter. We think it is very hard to sell people. What we can do is help people buy. We want to have conversations with people who share our interest in the things we are knowledgeable about -- travel, Nova Scotia, food, wine, seacoast and advenutre -- and build relationships so they know who we are and what we're all about. If people want to come to Nova Scotia for a vacation or a getaway, we're here to help them have an authentic experience that will stay with them. Think of us as a "Field of Dreams" at the head of the largest bay on the Nova Scotia Atlantic coast. Twitter is a vehicle to share our dream.

That's very cool Doug! Whatever model they decide to introduce, I would pay a subscription model if it meant ensuring it 'survived'. Have you taken a very soft sell approach on twitter? I'm fascinated to hear how you sell, as most of the commercial tweets I've seen are very 'Save, Save, Save' discount focused.

Hilarious post, Chris. Left a comment on your blog saying we'd definitely pay to keep our conversations and relationships going. We even took our first Twitter reservation today!
