Proof of life

My friend and partner in India, Jaimala Gupta, wrote to me a few days ago. She described going to Amer and meeting with the adminstrative office there. She was representing 24 children that live at Vasalya's children's home, "Udayan." She was there to present proof of their existence and to claim custodial representation. She left the office, after some hours, with Life Certificates... the first proof that these 24 children ever existed. She did the same thing last year for a similar number of children. These children range in age from 3 - 18.

Can you imagine being 18 years old and not having any legal proof that you exist? I read her email over and over and kept thinking we still have such a long way to go in our world.
