Venice Carnival: 10 days of festivities and masks

Anyone who has gone to a carnival knows that the first rule is to have fun and the second one is to admire the cars and costumes in the parades. Venice each year, follows those standards and goes beyond.

Venice Carnival was created in the 16th century, reaching its peak in the 18th, where the nobility used costumes to pass unnoticed among the crowd. That's why masks are the most characteristic of this festival. The celebration last 10 days and are held once a year before Lent.

2/6 21:00 pm. Carnival Opening in Piazza San Marco, with the introduction of a guest artist.
2/7 12:00 pm. "Flight of the Angel." A guest artist "flies" from the Campanile Tower.
2/7 15:00 pm. La festa delle Marie. From San Pietro di Castello to San Marco.
From 2/7 to 2/14 at 15:00 pm. Costumes Festival and street performers.
2/12 21:00 pm. Drag Queen's beauty festival.
2/11 to 2/14 at 15:00 pm. The most important costume contest of the carnival. Elected by an international jury.
2/11 to 2/14. Commedia Dell'Arte in Piazzetta San Marco. Classic Italian theatre.
2/13 to 2/15 at 21:00 pm. Tango night in Piazza San Marco.
2 /16 20:00 pm. Carnival Closure 2010 with big musical show.
