I had my first article published today on Associated Content. It's not much but a start for me! As a newcomer to travel writing, the hardest part is just to get something out there so I have samples to show around. Any tips or advice is welcomed as I go forward in this "new" career.

Want an honest description of the Burj Al Arab? How about this one by Sam Wollaston of The Guardian who described it as “fabulous, hideous, and the very pinnacle of tackiness – like Vegas after a serious, no-expense-spared, sheik-over.”Continue

1. Everyone still works with landmarks
In the 1980s, Dubai was the epitome of the U2 hit, “Where the streets have no name”. Instead, directions were given using landmarks, which were sometimes as vague as “turn right at the first set of pink buildings and then left at the one with the blue balcony railings”.Continue

If you live in Europe, you might think that the closest rainforest to you is somewhere in Rwanda, but you don’t have to head towards the equator for your little piece of paradise. Just get yourself to Zurich zoo and its absolutely wonderful Masoala rainforest enclosure, the largest of its kind in Europe, where you will find 11,000 square metres of carefully replicated rainforest habitats, with, amongst other creatures, lemurs, tortoises and chameleons.

I hopped a plane back to my homeland 10 days ago, on the 8th of March. I arrived at the airport way earlier than necessary and spent a few hours basking in the parking lot sun as I waited to take off. My third plane trip was as uneventful as the others. I lucked out and was assigned with a window seat. The views were incredible during the first 10 minutes of the flight as we flew over the Sea of Cortez with a birds eye view of the peninsula. The couple who were sitting next to me were…Continue
